Open-Air Shade & Style

Pergolas

A pergola gives you an open-beam roofline that filters sunlight and defines the space without fully enclosing it — a lighter, more architectural alternative to a solid patio cover.

Veteran-Owned Licensed & Insured Free On-Site Estimates

Where a solid patio cover gives full shade and rain protection, a pergola's open or slatted top lets light through while still defining the space — great for a garden seating area, a dining spot with dappled shade, or adding style without closing the yard in. We build them in cedar for a warm, traditional look, or aluminum for a cleaner, lower-maintenance finish, including louvered aluminum designs that adjust to let more or less light through.

Pergolas work attached to the house or as a standalone structure out in the yard, and they pair well with string lighting, fans, and our privacy walls for a more secluded feel. If you're still deciding between a pergola and a solid cover, see our patio cover vs. pergola comparison.

Pergolas FAQ

Does a pergola block rain?

Not fully — a standard open or slatted pergola filters sunlight but won't keep you dry in a downpour. A louvered aluminum pergola can close to shed rain; a solid patio cover is the better choice if rain protection is the priority.

Cedar or aluminum — which should I choose?

Cedar gives a warmer, more traditional look and needs occasional sealing. Aluminum is lower-maintenance and includes the option of adjustable louvers.

Can I add privacy walls or lighting to a pergola?

Yes — slatted privacy walls, string lighting, and fans are common additions to a pergola.
